FASTag Local Pass Launched for Residents Within 20km of Toll Plazas

0

The government is introducing a special annual FASTag pass for private vehicle owners living close to National Highway toll plazas. Set to come into effect on November 1, 2026, the scheme will offer discounted toll access to eligible residents living within 20km of a toll plaza.

Under the new arrangement, applicants will have to pay Rs 1,500 annually if their designated toll plaza is located outside municipal or local town limits. The fee will increase to Rs 3,000 for toll plazas situated within these limits. For reference, the regular FASTag annual pass currently costs Rs 3,075 for the 2026-27 financial year.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) announced the new provisions through a notification dated October 26, 2026, under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2026.

FASTag Local Pass: Who Can Apply?

The concessional pass will be available to owners of non-commercial vehicles residing within 20km of a National Highway toll plaza. Applicants must also have a valid and active FASTag registered for private vehicle use.

However, the benefit will be restricted to the toll plaza linked to the applicant’s residence. It cannot be used to claim discounted passage at other toll plazas. The scheme will also exclude National Highways and expressways operating under a closed toll collection system. Additionally, toll plazas with an available service road or alternative route for commuters will not be covered.
