The Audi Q5 moniker was missing from the Indian market since the beginning of the BS6 era. Now, the highly-anticipated SUV is all set to make a comeback in a facelifted avatar on November 23. Bookings for the car are already underway for a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.
Unlike the pre-facelift version, the 2021 Audi Q5 will be a petrol-only SUV, driven by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is good enough in generating 249PS of maximum power and 370Nm of peak torque. The same engine also does duty for the Audi A6, albeit in a different state of tune. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), driving all four wheels.
When it comes to cosmetical changes, the facelifted SUV features a larger & more refined hexagonal grille upfront with vertical chrome strips. It also gets a sportier front bumper with reprofiled intakes & fog lamp housing along with more attractive LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lamps. The rear bumper has also been revised for a bolder appearance.
The new Audi Q5 rides on more generous 19-inch ‘S-design’ alloy wheels.
Audi will offer the updated Q5 in two variants – Premium Plus and Technology. Its top-spec trim will get Audi’s latest 10.1-inch MMI infotainment system (claimed to be 10 times faster than its previous version), a digital driver’s display with new graphic layouts, connected car technology, Amazon’s Alexa AI support, a 755W 19-speaker Bang and Olufsen 3D sound system, adjustable dampers, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, 30-colour ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger, powered front seats, memory function for ORVMs, and a powered tailgate, etc. Occupants' safety will be taken care of by eight airbags (including rear-side airbags), electronic stability control, Audi's park assists, traction control, ABS with EBD, front & rear parking sensors. For the 2021 Q5, customers will get five body paint options to choose from- – Mythos Black, Floret Silver, Ibis White, Navarra Blue, and Manhattan Grey. On the other hand, its interior can be had either in a Black/Brown or in a Black/Beige theme.
Expect Audi to price the upgraded Q5 from around Rs 57 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Lexus NX300h, and Volvo XC60.
