BYD (Build Your Dreams), the Chinese EV maker, has finally revealed its second electric car for the Indian market, the Atto 3 SUV. It will be brought to our shores via the CKD route in December 2022. Its deliveries will start from January 2023 onwards.
BYD Atto 3 – Design
Based on the BYD’s Dragon Face 3.0 design theme, the Atto 3 features a closed-off grille and a thick chrome strip up front, flanked by a three-pod swept-back LED headlamp setup. An elegant 18-inch alloy wheel complements its sharp line profile. Located at the rear are ‘Build Your Dreams’ and ‘Atto 3’ badges, along with a width-spanning LED taillight bar.

BYD will offer the Atto 3 SUV in four colour options: Parkour Red, Ski White, Surf Blue, and Boulder Grey.

Interior and Features
Inside, the Atto 3 boasts an elegant-looking minimalistically styled layered dashboard with a quirky air vents design. Taking the centre console is a free-floating 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system that can control most of the features of the electrified SUV. What powers the BYD Atto 3?
Powering the BYD Atto 3 is a 204PS/310Nm rated electric motor mounted on the front axle. It borrows its charge from a 60.48kWh battery pack, claiming an ARAI-tested range of 521 kilometres. BYD asserts that the SUV can reach from a standstill to 100kmph in just 7.3 seconds.
As for charging, the Atto 3 is compatible with an 80kW DC fast charger that can juice it up to 80 per cent in just 50 minutes, whereas a 7kW AC home charger will take around 10 hours to charge it 100 per cent. And like the Kia EV6, it also gets vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, conveying it can power specific appliances/devices using the car’s battery pack.

Expected Price and Competitors
We expect the prices of BYD Atto 3 to start from around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a premium alternative to the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
