Michelin launched the made-in-India Primacy 5, a premium tyre designed for sedans and SUVs, marking it as the first Michelin passenger car tyre to be manufactured in India. With prices starting from Rs 10,000, the Primacy 5 tyres are available in sizes ranging from 16 to 22 inches.
For those unaware, Michelin has been locally producing tyres in India for trucks and buses for over a decade, and the French company has now also commenced local manufacturing of the passenger vehicle tyres. The Primacy 5 is the first in a range of locally made products, with Pilot Sport 4 SUV, Pilot Sport 5 and LTX Trail ST set to follow in a phased manner.

Michelin Primacy 5: Key Traits
1. Safety & Longevity
Building on Michelin’s legacy in premium passenger mobility, the Michelin Primacy 5 delivers strong gains in both safety and durability, backed by independent testing.
As per tests conducted by Applus+ IDIADA at NATRAX, Indore (May–June 2026) on a Hyundai Creta (205/65 R16), the Primacy 5 emerged as a clear leader in braking performance. In wet braking (80–20 km/h), it stopped at an average of 30.5 metres when new, compared to the competitors’ average of 38.6 metres. Even in worn conditions (2 mm tread depth), it maintained an advantage, stopping at 37.6 metres vs 46.5 metres for rivals.
In dry braking (100–0 km/h), the Primacy 5 again led the segment, stopping in 38.1 metres, outperforming the competitors’ average of 42.2 metres.
On the longevity front, the tyre delivers 8% higher mileage than the Primacy 4ST, based on projected tyre life tests conducted under Indian road conditions. Michelin’s EverTread and EverGrip technologies ensure consistent grip from the first to the last kilometre, without compromising durability.
2. Comfort
The Primacy 5 also sets a benchmark in ride comfort. In controlled testing, it recorded lower vertical acceleration (4.8 m/s²) compared to the competitors’ average of 5.2 m/s², indicating better absorption of road imperfections.
Additionally, a redesigned tread pattern helps reduce noise levels, contributing to a quieter and more refined cabin experience. Overall, the tyre delivers a 9% improvement in comfort over rivals in the segment.
3. EV-Ready Performance
Designed for evolving mobility needs, the Primacy 5 is engineered to perform efficiently in both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It is capable of handling the higher torque and weight characteristics of EVs, while maintaining durability and consistent performance.
The tyre also improves efficiency, with 6.5% lower rolling resistance compared to the Primacy 4ST, as per ISO 28580 test standards. This translates to better fuel efficiency in ICE vehicles and improved driving range in EVs
Combined with Michelin’s signature low-noise performance and enhanced ride quality, the Primacy 5 is positioned as a well-rounded upgrade for modern passenger vehicles.
