Hyundai Bayon India Launch Soon; To Be Offered In Petrol and CNG Guises

Hyundai India has been testing the Bayon-based SUV (codenamed Bc4i) in the country for some time, and our sources have revealed that it will be offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a factory-fitted CNG kit. With this, it will be the brand’s first mid-size offering to get a CNG powertrain. Currently, Hyundai only has CNG offerings under sub-4m range, with models like Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter.

Expect Hyundai to unveil this new SUV around September this year.

According to sources, the petrol engine in the upcoming Hyundai Bayon-based SUV will be the same unit that also does duty in the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It produces 115PS of max power and 144Nm of peak torque, and comes with 6-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission options. While it is not official, sources confims an underbody CNG tank for its CNG version. As of now, Maruti Suzuki Victoris comes with this kind of CNG setup to free up some usable space inside the boot.

Hyundai Bayon interior and features

Soon after its arrival, Hyundai also has plans to introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain with the Creta. With this approach, the Korean carmaker will have a wide powertrain range in the mid-size SUV segment. This will help the carmaker to cater to a wider section of audience and creating a clear distinction between the two models. It will also strengthens the brand’s positioning in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment, ensuring that each model and powertrain serves a more defined purpose wihtout too much overlapping in terms of features and capabilities.

Expect more details about the upcoming model to be surfaced online as we move closer to its India debut. We expect Hyundai to price it very competitively, probably in the ballpark of Rs 10.50 – 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
