Yamaha XSR155 vs TVS Ronin: Which Bike Should You Buy?

The recently launched Yamaha XSR155 is the brand’s attempt to regain its lost share in the sub-160cc category. It’s a premium neo-retro roadster with no direct rival in the Indian market. However, the TVS Ronin, which is priced similarly and offers a larger engine, can be seen as its close alternative. In this thread, we will compare these two motorcycles to determine which one makes more sense to you.

Yamaha XSR155 vs TVS Ronin: Engine Specifications

  • Despite a smaller displacement engine, the power and torque output of the Yamaha XSR155 is on par with the TVS Ronin. The Yamaha also gets a more sophisticated liquid-cooling system for the engine.
  • The Yamaha XSR155 produces its peak power at the very top of the rev range. It means it should be revved hard to extract its best performance, making it ideal for enthusiast riders who love sporty, high-revving character. On the other hand, the TVS Ronin delivers peak power much earlier in the rev range, making it easier to ride, smoother and more relaxed for daily commutes.
  • Speaking of the torque output, the Ronin offers a strong pull right from low speeds, which should allow effortless overtakes with fewer gear shifts in the city. On the contrary, the peak pull comes late in the XSR155. This means you need to downshift and keep the bike in the high revs to get quick acceleration.

  • The XSR also has a shorter wheelbase and ground clearance than Ronin, which should further help in quicker handling. This is further enhanced by its lighter kerb weight of 23kg.
  • Both get USD front forks, but the Ronin offers a 7-step adjustable monoshock, giving it more flexibility in ride comfort.
  • The Ronin has a lower seat height than the XSR155, making it more accessible for shorter riders, whereas the XSR155’s taller seat is suited for sporty ergonomics.
  • The footpegs in the Yamaha XSR155 are slightly rear-positioned compared to Ronin, whereas the handlebars are upright and wide, which supports a more dynamic stance for quick handling
