Tata Curvv CNG Testing Now Underway; Launch Soon

Tata Motors is gearing up to expand its green mobility lineup in the country, with the introduction of the Curvv CNG. Recently, a camouflaged test mule of the Curvv was spied in Pune (Maharashtra), suggesting its imminent launch. It is expected to command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over its regular petrol counterpart.

With its launch, the Curvv will become the only model in its segment to be offered with petrol, diesel, electric and CNG powertrains, providing customers an unmatched range of options to suit different driving needs and fuel preferences. Currently, the Tata Nexon sub-4m SUV is also offered with such a wide range of powertrain options.

Powertrain Details

Underneath the hood, the Curvv will get a factory-fitted CNG option with its 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-charged petrol engine, which makes 120PS and 170Nm in the petrol-only version. However, the output will be slightly lower when fed with CNG. Transmission duties are likely to be taken care of by a 6-speed manual gearbox. Like the Nexon, it is expected to get dual-cylinder technology, which ensures a usable boot space by placing the cylinders under the boot floor, making it more practical for everyday usage.

For those unaware, Tata also offers the Curvv with a 125PS 1.2-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol and 118PS 1.5-litre diesel engine options. However, they are unlikely to get the CNG option.

Design and Features

The CNG version of the Tata Curvv will look identical to its regular version, albeit minor cosmetic changes are expected, such as revised wheel design/cover and an iCNG badge on the tailgate.

As of now, we aren’t sure if Tata will offer the CNG option in the higher variants as well. But if it does, it will come loaded with amenities like rain-sensing wipers, auto-headlamps, a 10.125-inch floating infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital driver’s display, 6-way powered front seats with a ventilation function, auto AC, rear AC vents, cruise control, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, JBL sound system, electronic parking brakes with auto-hold, tyre pressure monitoring system, 360-degree camera, hill start & descent assist, six airbags, and much more.

Rivals

Once launched, the Curvv iCNG will lock horns with the CNG iterations of Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Grand Vitara. However, out of these three rivals, the Honda Elevate get a retrofitted CNG kit installed by their dealerships.
