4th-Gen Honda City, Jazz, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger Got 4 Stars in Global NCAP Crash Test

Revealed by the latest round of crash tests by the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) under its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, the 4th-gen Honda City, Honda Jazz, and Renault Kiger have secured a 4-star safety rating. With this, the Global NCAP has also reached the 50 model milestone for cars tested for the Indian market.

All cars were tested in their base-spec version, fitted with dual front airbags and ABS. The Honda City also comes with ISOFIX anchorages and CRS (child restraint system) as standard.

4th-Gen Honda City Crash Test Rating

Honda City (4th Gen) achieved four stars for adult and child occupant protection
  • Adult Protection Rating: โ€“ 4-stars, Score: 12.03 points out of 17
  • Child Protection Rating: โ€“ 4-stars, Score: 38.27 points out of 49
  • The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings.
  • The protection offered to the driverโ€™s and passengerโ€™s head and neck was good. However, the driverโ€™s chest showed marginal protection and the passengerโ€™s chest showed adequate protection. Protection for their keens was rated as marginal as they could impact with dangerous structure behind the dashboard.
  • The driverโ€™s tibias showed adequate and good protection, while the passengerโ€™s tibias showed adequate protection. 
  • The forward-facing child seat for 3-years old dummy (installed using the ISOFIX mounts) contains extreme forward movement. The rearward facing child seat for 1.5-years dummy also offerd good protection to chest and head.

Honda Jazz Crash Test Rating

Honda Jazz achieved four stars for adult and three stars for child occupant protection
  • Adult Protection Rating: โ€“ 4-stars, Score: 13.89 points out of 17
  • Child Protection Rating: โ€“ 3-stars, Score: 31.54 points out of 49
  • The footwerll and bodyshell was rated as stable, and was capable of withstanding further loadings.
  • Similar to the Honda City (4th-gen), the head and neck protections were rated good for both the driver and front passenger. The protection offered to the chest of the front passenger was also good, however, the same was rated as marginal for the driver.
  • Protection for kee region was marginal as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard.
  • Since the Honda Jazz dosnโ€™t offer ISOFIX child seats in its base-spec variant, both the child seats were installed in rearward direction using adult seat belts. There was inadequate protection to the chest.

Nissan Magnite Crash Test Rating

Nissan Magnite scored four stars for adult and two for child occupant protection
  • Adult Protection Rating: โ€“ 4-stars, Score: 11.85 points out of 17
  • Child Protection Rating: โ€“ 2-stars, Score: 24.88 points out of 49
  • Bodyshell and footwell area were rated as stable.
  • The protection offered to the driverโ€™s and passengerโ€™s head and neck was good.
  • Driverโ€™s chest showed marginal protection and the passengerโ€™s chest showed good protection.
  • Driverโ€™s and left passengerโ€™s knees showed marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube.
  • The passengerโ€™s right knee showed good protection. The driverโ€™s and passengerโ€™s tibias showed adequate protection.
  • The FWF 3-years old child seat, intalled using the adjult seat belt wasnโ€™t able to prevent excessive forward movement.
  • The 1.5 year old child seat was installed RWF, offering good protection to the head and poor protection to the chest.
  • Nissan Magnite was also crash-tested by the ASEAN NCAP in December 2020 and managed to score a 4-star safety rating out of five.

Renault Kiger Crash Test Rating

Renault Kiger achieves four stars for adult and two stars for child occupant protection
  • Adult Protection Rating: โ€“ 4-stars, Score: 12.34 points out of 17
  • Child Protection Rating: โ€“ 2-stars, Score: 21.05 points out of 49
  • The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings.
  • The footwell area was rated as stable.
  • Protection offered to the driverโ€™s and passengerโ€™s head and neck was good. The driverโ€™s chest showed marginal protection and the passengerโ€™s chest showed adequate protection. The driverโ€™s and passengerโ€™s left knees showed marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube. The passengerโ€™s right knee showed good protection.
  • The driverโ€™s tibias and passengerโ€™s right tibia showed adequate protection, while the passengerโ€™s left tibia showed good protection.
  • The child occupants protection test showed similar results as the Nissan Magnite except the fact that there was weak protection to the 18-month old childโ€™s chest.
