Tesla India To Open Its First Showroom On July 15; Model Y Tipped To Debut

The American EV giant, Tesla, is all set to foray into the Indian market on July 15 by opening its first experience centre in the country at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), likely followed by another store in New Delhi by the month’s end. However, the actual car launches are likely to follow later.

Initially, Tesla will begin its India operations via the CBU route with its direct-to-customer approach. As of now, the company is dealing with excess manufacturing capacity at its global plants and a decline in worldwide sales.

Tesla Model Y Could Be The First Offering

Tesla is expected to kick off its India journey with the launch of Model Y. According to a report by Reuters, commercial import records from January to June indicate that Tesla has imported six units of the Model Y (five of the standard range and one of the long-range), charges, accessories as well as several Superchargers worth $1 million into India, primarily from China and US.
