Next-Gen Mahindra XUV500 Launch Hold Up Till September 2021

We all know that Mahindra is gearing up to launch the next-generation XUV500 and Scorpio SUVs in the Indian market. While the XUV500 was expected to be introduced in the second quarter of 2021, the launch has now been delayed till September 2021 with deliveries are reportedly to commence from November 2021. The specific reason for the suspension is yet to be revealed, it could be due to the shortage of semiconductors. This could lead to further delay in the launch of the 2021 Mahindra Scorpio which is likely to be launched after the XUV500.

For the people not in know, the shortage of semiconductor devices has affected several manufacturers in different ways. These tiny electronic components are widely used in modern automobiles nowadays, comprising different types of semiconductors such as signal processors, analog ICs, sensors, receivers, memory, and transmitters, which are used in computer-based systems that revolve around software codes like infotainment systems, connected techs, telematics features, driver's display, ECU, and many more. And the new XUV500 will get a plethora of electronic aids like dual-screen setup, electronic braking, and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which will include active safety features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane departure warning, and park assist, etc.

Besides the above-mentioned techs, the next-gen XUV500 will also get a panoramic sunroof, LED auto headlamps, digital driver's display, power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, and many more. It is likely to be offered in both 6-and 7-seater configurations. 

Based on the all-new monocoque platform, the SUV is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter mStallion T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-liter diesel unit. While the former mill is likely to produce 190PS and 350Nm, the latter is expected to deliver around 180PS of max power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The diesel mill could also get an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system option.
