Five Key Differences Between The Old And New Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki has recently given a facelift update to one of the best-selling hatchbacks of the country, the Swift. It gets some cosmetic updates, added features, and a more powerful & frugal engine than before. All these come at a slight premium over the previous model. Let’s take a look at all the changes that the new Swift bears over the pre-facelift model: –

1. Minor aesthetical changes

The only major cosmetic change that the new Swift get is the redesigned honeycomb mesh grille with a chrome strip in the center. Besides this, all the styling elements remain unchanged. Inside the cabin, it gets new fabric upholstery.

2. Premium ivories

With the facelift update, Maruti is now also offering dual-tone paint schemes with the top-spec Swift Zxi+ for a premium of Rs 14,000. There is a total of 3 two-tone colors on offer: Pearl Arctic White with Pearl Midnight Black roof, Solid Fire Red with Pearl Midnight Black roof, and Pearl Metallic Midnight Blue with Pearl Arctic White roof.

3. Added safety & comfort

With the facelift update, India's favourite hatch also gets a few additional features such as cruise control, auto-foldable outside mirrors, auto-idle start-stop, and a new 4.2-inch TFT color multi-information display (MID) for the instrument cluster (similar to Baleno). Apart from this, the AMT trims now also get additional safety features like hill-hold assist, and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard fitment. On the other hand, the second from the base trim (VXi) receives a new audio head unit with integrated electrostatics touch buttons.

4. More Power and improved mileage

The 2021 Maruti Swift gets its biggest update inside the bonnet. From now onwards the Swift will draw its mechanical energy from a new 1.2-liter Dualjet petrol engine which also powers the Dzire facelift and Baleno. However, it misses out on the mild-hybrid powertrain that the premium hatchback gets with automatic transmission.

This new motor generates 90PS & 113Nm of a peak output, which is 7PS more than the previous 1.2-liter K12 petrol unit. It also comes with an engine-idle start-stop system, which automatically cuts off the engine when it remains in idling condition for a specific period. This has improved the claimed fuel efficiency of the car. For reference, the manual version of the 2021 facelifted Swift will now deliver an ARAI mileage of 23.20kmpl whereas the AMT models will be more efficient at 23.76kmpl, as against the previous model's 21.21kmpl.

Transmission options are unchanged. The 2021 Swift will continue to be available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

5. Prices

The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced from Rs 5.73 lakh to Rs 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom). Compared to the previous model, it has witnessed a price hike ranging between Rs 15,000 to Rs 24,000. Here' the detailed price list: –
