Mahindra Recalled 1,577 Units Of Thar Diesel Variants

Mahindra has recalled a total of 1,577 units of the second-generation Thar's diesel variants, built between 7th September to 25th December 2020. The reason for the recall is a possible issue with the camshaft. As per Mahindra, there was an error in the machine setting at the camshaft supplier's plant, therefore, some camshafts were not built as per the carmaker’s quality standards & specification, which could have affected some engines of the diesel Thar.

Mahindra will contact the affected vehicle's owners for an inspection and will replace the part free of cost if necessary. The authorized service center could keep recalled cars for a couple of days for careful examination.

What is a camshaft?

A camshaft is a rotating object with attached lobes positioned along with it (cams), which actuate the intake and exhaust valves of the cylinders. Their calibration precisely controls the amount of air-fuel mixture that enters the combustion chamber. It is also responsible for the efficient egress of exhaust gases from the chamber.
