  • Both the Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra come with three engine options, including a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel, all powering the front wheels of their respective SUV.
  • The engine specifications of both models are on par with each other. However, the Sierra’s diesel mill is slightly more torquey, especially with the automatic transmission.
  • While Sierra’s turbo-petrol engine is available only with an automatic transmission, the Seltos’ turbo-gasoline also benefits from an intelligent clutchless manual transmission, offering the fun of a manual transmission without the need to operate a clutch pedal.

Verdict

With the new-gen update, the Kia Seltos has emerged as a more mature and tech-packed product than the outgoing model, strengthening its position in the segment, including against the Tata Sierra. While the Sierra’s unique design, spacious cabin and huge craze among audiences are hard to match, the Seltos has the upper hand in terms of features and enjoys a more reliable brand image – an area where Tata has often struggled.
