2022 Toyota Innova: What to expect?

Toyota’s massively successful people mover has been a trusted favorite of countless Indian families. With a flood of entries in the 7-seater segment like the Kia Carens, updated Maruti Suzuki Ertiga/XL6 and Kia Carnival, the competition is hotter than ever and Toyota does not want to lose their top spot, which is why they’re all set to bring the next generation of the Toyota Innova to India.

This generation is said to have massive overhauls in almost every regard in comparison to the current Innova Crysta. What all can you expect from the new Innova? Let’s find out!

New TNGA-C platform

Internally codenamed the Toyota 650B, it is said to come with Toyota’s Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). Introduced in 2015, it is aim at newer vehicles in the emerging overseas market. The new architecture is said to be much more rigid with a streamlined chassis, have reduced weight and be versatile enough to be implemented in cars of multiple segments. The TNGA-C platform underpins unibody vehicles in the C-Segment and subcompact/compact crossover SUV categories.

Exterior and Interior Overhauls

On the outside the next generation Innova will get a flatter more pronounced front grille, slender headlamps towards the front and slightly revised taillamps at the back. With the new monocoque chassis, it also sees a 30mm reduction in length but a 100mm increase in its wheelbase. On the inside, the car is likely to sees some fresh changes in terms of design and features that could possibly include a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, auto AC, ventilated seats and reclinable captain seats in the 2nd row with ottoman function (basically a footrest for additional under thigh support).

Goodbye diesel, Hello Hybrid Petrol

With the next generation Innova, Toyota is expected to ditch its 2.7-litre diesel engine with a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain, that is likely to similar to Honda’s new City e:HEV, featuring dual motors, where one acts as a generator and the other acts as a traction motor. It is likely to provide lower running cost in comparison to diesel.

Expected Launch Date?

The new generation Innova will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta (you diesel peeps can stop worrying) and is slated to be unveiled around Diwali 2022 with an early 2023 launch.
