2021 Toyota Innova Crysta Facelift – Design & Features

The Indian-spec Toyota Innova Crysta has received the same styling updates like the Indonesian-spec model. It features an updated trapezoidal glossy black grille, surrounded by chrome elements. The headlamps also get chrome finishing along with updated LED DRLs and chrome extensions that merge with the front grille. The design of front bumpers has also been revived, starring a blacked-out section now. It also gets a silver faux skid plate. The turn-indicators, housed in a vertically stacked framing, is now a separate unit from the fog lamps, whereas the fog beams have been shifted on the darker portion of the bumper.

The side profile of the car is largely unchanged except for the new diamond-cut alloy wheels that range between 16 & 17-inches, depending on the trim selection. The changes on the rear are also minimal. Toyota has also introduced a new Sparkling Black Crystal Shine paint scheme for the facelifted Innova.

On the inside, it gets a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with dedicated buttons for volume control and other functions. It also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Customers now can also get connectivity features like real-time vehicle tracking, last parked location, geofencing, and more as optional accessories.

Besides this, the top-spec ZX trim also gets Camel Tan coloured leather seats and front parking sensors with MID indication to prevent crashes while parking in tight areas. The lower variants continue to come with black upholstery.

Apart from these above-mentioned changes, the Toyota MPV retained its older model features such as LED automatic headlamps, coloured MID (multi-info display), steering-mounted controls, powered driver’s seat, climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, etc. Safety is taken care of by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, front & rear parking sensors with a rear parking camera.

Toyota Innova Crysta Facelift – Engine

Under the hood, the facelifted Innova continue to house the ongoing engine options – 2.7-litre petrol engine (166PS/145Nm) and 2.4-litre diesel motor (150PS/up to360Nm). Both engines offer rear-wheels-drivetrain (RWD) as standard with the choice of a 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Author’s Take

Toyota Innova has maintained its dominance in the MPV segment since it made its debut in 2004. Although some new names have joined the MPV segment in the last few years, there is still no direct rival of Innova Crysta available in the Indian market.

This is the first time the second-generation Innova has received any major update since 2016. However, according to the changes it has undergone, its latest prices seem to be on the higher side.
