The upcoming Toyota Hilux is likely to be available in two variants – Hilux and Hilux Reo. It will be based on a body-on-frame IMV-2 platform as the Fortuner and Innova Crysta, measuring 5.3 meters in length with a wheelbase of over 3 meters. It is expected to be assembled locally, and thus; Toyota may offer it in a competitive price range against the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross (Rs 18.31 lakh to Rs 25.84 lakh).
Talking about the spy images, the Indian-spec Toyota Hilux will get a largely similar design to its global counterpart. However, its front design could be slightly different, featuring a larger hexagonal front grille flanked by dual-beam LED headlamps. The spied model also seems to be extensively accessorized, suggesting that it will come with both aesthetic and functional accessories.
While the cabin of India-bound Hilux is still under the wraps, it could borrow certain design elements from its aforementioned siblings like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and instrument cluster, etc. For creature comfort and safety, it is expected to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC, push-button start-stop, cruise control, armrests, powered driver’s seat, clock, multiple airbags, electronic stability control, hill start/descent assist, and rear parking sensors with reversing camera.
Underneath the bonnet, the Toyota Hilux is likely to equip Innova’s 150PS 2.4-litre and the Fortuner’s 204PS 2.8-litre diesel engines, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. While both engines could get rear-wheel-drivetrain (RWD) as standard, the bigger capacity mill could also come with an optional four-wheel drivetrain (4WD) along with High (H4) & Low (L4) range, an electronic locking differential, and a traction control system.
