Tata's premium hatchback, the Altroz is going to receive a new turbocharged petrol engine along with a dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) in next month. The brand has announced to hold an "Altroz media event" on 13th January 2021, which hints its launch on the same day.
The Tata Altroz Turbo will feature Nexon's 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor but in a detuned state. In Altroz, it is likely to develop 110PS of maximum power and 140Nm of peak torque, which is 10PS/30Nm less than the Nexon petrol. This new engine is likely to come with a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission options. With this, the Altroz will become the first Tata car to get a DCT gearbox. The brand could also offer this unit on other Tata cars in near future.
As per the reports, the Altroz turbo is likely to be offered in four variants: XT, XT(O), XZ and XZ(O). The lower-spec XE, XM, and mid-spec XM+ trims might not get this new powertrain option.

The design of the Altroz Turbo is likely to be similar to its regular model except for a turbo badging at the back. It could also get a new blue colour exterior paint scheme. We don't expect any difference in its interior design and features list. It will continue to get premium equipment such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Harman sound system, a 7-inch coloured multi-info display, auto climate control, rear AC vent, cruise control, ambient lighting, and keyless entry with push-button start, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear camera, etc.
Tata Altroz Turbo will lock horns with Hyundai i20 Turbo and Volkswagen Polo TSI, both of these hot-hatches comes with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. As far as pricing is concerned, the Altroz turbo DCT will surely command a premium of around Rs 1.5 lakh over the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol manual variants, which are priced from Rs 5.44 lakh to Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
