2022 Mahindra Scorpio Spied Again With Roof-Mounted Speakers And Electric Sunroof

The highly-awaited next-generation Mahindra Scorpio is expected to hit the Indian showrooms by early 2022. The wait is still quite long, but the spy images that we have seen so far suggest that Mahindra has gone all the way out to increase its appeal and functionality for various customers. And the latest snaps of the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio are revealing some more interesting details about the SUV.

The new Scorpio will get roof-mounted speakers like the second-generation Thar. The above image also gives us a clear view of the electric sunroof, which is another addition to the SUV. The upgraded Scorpio will also get brown color leatherette upholstery with orange stitching.

While we know it gets a newly designed dashboard, it retains the sturdy and upright appearance of the current Scorpio. The central console tunnel also seems quite high than the conventional position, separating the cockpit into two sections. It also features storage space on the driver's side.

Besides, Mahindra has also future-proofed the Scorpio with confirmed features like dual-zone climate control, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel that gets cruise control along with audio & telephony functions. Other upgrades on offer include a twin-pod analogue instrument panel with a MID and a set of switches below the climate control unit that it has borrowed from the second-generation Mahindra Thar.

It could also come with an all-LED lighting system, wireless charging, multiple drive & traction control modes, auto headlamps & wipers, and AC vents for all three rows.

Safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, hill assist control, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, and a rear parking camera.

New Mahindra Scorpio expected launch timeline

The 2022 Scorpio is likely to borrow its powertrains from the second-generation Thar, albeit in a higher state of tune. For reference, the off-roader employs 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 130PS 2.2-liter diesel engines. Transmission choices are expected to include a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit. Not to mention, the body-on-frame SUV could get back the 4WD configuration, which was discontinued last year during the BS6 transition phase.

Expect the new Mahindra Scorpio to command a significant premium over its ongoing version, which retails from Rs 12.59 lakh to Rs 17.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
