Next-Gen Skoda Octavia RS Could Come In 2021

While the fourth-generation Skoda Octavia is all set to arrive on 10th June, Skoda India’s Director Zac Hollis has revealed that the new-gen Octavia RS is also under consideration for India. It is expected to hit our market by 2022. For those who aren't aware, the RS245 is essentially a performance-oriented version of the Octavia sedan, which in its current generation retails at Rs 35.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Similar to the ongoing RS245, the new RS will also come as a completely built-up unit and will be sold in limited numbers.

Unveiled in July 2020, the new Skoda Octavia RS gets three powertrain options – a 200PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel, 245PS 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol, and a 245PS 1.4-litre TSI turbo-petrol with a plug-in hybrid system (a first for the Octavia). While the RS petrol is offered with the option of both a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) and 6-speed manual transmission, the diesel engine is only available with the 7-speed DSG unit along with an optional all-wheel-drivetrain. However, its Indian-spec model will most likely get the 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, paired to a 7-speed DSG that propels the front wheels.

The design of the new Octavia RS is in line with its standard model; however, it gets typical RS upgrades such as a progressive steering system, RS Sports suspension (sits lower by 15mm in the non-hybrid model), larger brakes, Dynamic Chassis Control as well as an electronic limited-slip differential for optimum traction. It also gets some sporty design elements to match its vibrant character. These mainly include aggressively styled bumpers, larger alloy wheels with low profile tyres, and vRS badging at the front grille & rear, along with blackout treatment on the grille, air dams, ORVMs and diffusers.
