Kia Sonet, Seltos To Get 6 Airbags From Base-spec Variant

Highlights: –

  • Kia Sonet and Seltos to get 6-airbags as standard fitment across the lineup.
  • Prices are likely to go up.

Kia India has recently launched the Carens 6/7-seater MPV equipped with 6-airbags, ESC, and lots of other standard safety features. Now, reports are suggesting that the brand will soon offer the Sonet and Seltos with side and curtain airbags and ESC from their entry-level variants. Besides, both the SUVs could also get a new Blue colour paint scheme as the Kia Carens.

At present, both the Kia Sonet and Seltos get dual-airbags as standard, while their top-spec trims pack up to 6 airbags. This will be in line with the central government’s vision of making 6-airbags a standard fitment in all cars with up to 8 seats.

In other developments, the Kia Seltos is also due for a facelift update and is likely to get a new hybrid powertrain instead of the diesel unit. It will also get a refreshed front fascia along with an updated lighting system and a few additional features. Similar to the Creta Facelift, it could also get Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

With the increased safety, the prices of both these Korean offerings will certainly go up by a significant margin. For reference, the Kia Sonet currently ranges from Rs 6.95 lakh to Rs 13.69 lakh, whereas the Seltos is priced from Rs 9.95 lakh to Rs 18.19 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Interestingly, the Seltos is a bit expensive than the recently launched Carens MPV and offers better safety features from the base-spec trim.
