Kia EV6 Bookings Open In India; Crash Test Rating Revealed

  • Bookings for Kia EV6 are now open.

Korean carmaker Kia has commenced bookings for its first electric vehicle (EV) in India, the EV6, for Rs 3 lakh. Interested customers can now book it online and at select dealerships nationwide. It is worth noting that only 100 units of the Kia EV6 will be available for sale in India, and that too via the Completely built-up unit (CBU) route. It will be launched on June 2, 2022.

A Perfect 5-Star Safety Rating …

Kia has recently revealed that the EV6 will be its safest offering in India. It has recently obtained an excellent 5-star safety rating in the latest round of crash tests performed by the European NCAP (Euro NCAP). It scored 90 percent for adult occupant protection and 86 percent for child occupants. Pedestrian safety, on the other hand, has been rated at 64 percent, while the safety assist technologies have received 87 percent rating.

That said, the passenger’s safety in the Kia EV6 is handled by up to eight airbags (including front-center airbags to prevent collision between front passengers), front seatbelt pre-tensioners, ABS with EBD, 360-degree camera, stability control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), stability management (VSM), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and advanced driving assistant system that further comprise features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, speed assistance, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and driver attention warning.

Variants and Powertrain

Kia will offer the EV6 in a sole GT Line trim, albeit with two drivetrain options: rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD), both linked to a 77.4kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack good for over 500 kilometers of claimed drive range. Here’s a look at its detailed specifications: –

Expect Kia to price the EV6 between Rs 60 – 70 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it against the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs 75 lakh) and the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5.
