  • Since the C5 Aircross is a diesel-only offering so we have only compared it with the diesel-powered variants of its competitors. However, both Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson are available with petrol engines choices as well.
  • All three SUVs get a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel motor, but the Korean SUV is the most powerful vehicle amongst all. However, its torque output is right up there with the C5 Aircross.
  • As far as gearbox options are concerned, it's only the Jeep Compass that is available with both manual and automatic gearbox choices. Also, both Compass and Tucson get the advantage of an all-wheel-drive drivetrain to boost their off-roading characteristics.

3. Features Comparison

 – Common Features –

  • All three SUVs come with a generously loaded cabin. The notable common features include LED lighting system, dual-zone climate control, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, automatic headlamps, static bending/cornering function, rain-sensing wipers, powered tailgate (hands-free opening & closing), cruise control, powered driver’s seat, height-adjustable front passenger seat (manual in C5 Aircross, powered in Compass & Tucson), keyless entry with push-button start, electric parking brake, auto-dimming rearview mirror, multiple driving modes, six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-start assist control (HAC), hill descent control, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), child seat anchor-ISOFIX, reverse parking camera & sensors.

  • Except for the Jeep Compass, both the other SUVs also gets front parking sensors.

4. Price Comparison

Model Price Range (ex-showroom)
Citroen C5 Aircross Rs 29.90 lakh to Rs 31.90 lakh
Jeep Compass Rs 16.99 lakh to Rs 28.29 lakh
Hyundai Tucson Rs 22.55 lakh to Rs 27.33 lakh

As the above table indicates, the all-new C5 Aircross is pretty expensive than even the top-spec variants of the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. In fact, its prices are comparable to the one segment above, 7-seaters body-on-frame SUVs such as Mahindra Alturas G4 (Rs 28.73 – 31.73 lakh), Toyota Fortuner (Rs 30.34-38.30 lakh), MG Gloster (Rs 29.98 – 36.08 lakh) and Ford Endeavour (Rs 29.99 – 36.25 lakh).

Verdict

On paper, the Citroen C5 Aircross comes across as the biggest car and has the torquiest diesel engine in its segment. Though Citroen offers it with some exclusive features and promises one of the comfiest SUVs, it doesn’t get a 4WD system like those rivals. Furthermore, its higher prices and small dealer network don’t do any favours on its side. However, one can buy this SUV to stand out in the crowd.
