Yamaha MT-15 To Soon Get A Dual-Channel ABS Variant

Yamaha Motorcycles India is all set to introduce a new dual-channel ABS variant in MT-15's line-up. With this, the updated Yamaha MT-15 will be more safer than its previous model. It is likely to be launched in the coming weeks and could demand a premium of around Rs 4,000 over the single-channel ABS trim, which currently retails from Rs 1.40 lakh to Rs 1.41 lakh (ex-showroom), for different color options.

Apart from the addition of another ABS sensor, the bike is expected to remain unchanged. It will continue to be powered by the same 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that also powers the full-fairing Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0 entry-level sports bike. This engine makes out 18.5PS at 10,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 8500rpm and comes mated a 6-speed transmission with an assist-and-slipper clutch that enables a lighter clutch lever pull, and lessens the engine braking effect, which prevents sudden forces to damage the transmission. Further, it also counteracts the rear wheel from locking up while downshifting aggressively.

Underpinnings of MT15 are also similar to the R15 version 3.0, save for the rear aluminum swingarm. For reference, both these Japanese motorcycles are based on the Deltabox frame, suspended on a telescopic front fork and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Both bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with a 100-section front tubeless and 140-section radial tubeless tires. The latter offers better sidewall strength compared to conventional rubber, thus offering great grip and confidence during cornering. For braking, both use a 282mm front and a 220mm rear disc.

With the introduction of a dual-channel ABS variant, the MT-15 will become a more supreme option for those who desire excellent performance and safety levels like R15 V3 with relaxed ergonomics. It could also be seen as an affordable alternative to the KTM 125 Duke, which is priced at Rs 1,60,319 (ex-showroom Delhi).
