2022 Volkswagen Virtus – What to expect?

Here’s what we expect from this upcoming three-box Volkswagen car: –

  • Similar to Rapid’s successor model, the Skoda Slavia, the Volkswagen Virtus will be also be based on the highly localised MQB-A0-IN platform.
  • It will be VW’s second offering under its ‘INDIA 2.0″ product strategy.
  • The Volkswagen Virtus is likely to feature a minimalist front design, and like Taigun, this too could use chrome extensively to appeal Indian audience.

  • Considering the fact that the Skoda Slavia shares its interior design with the new-gen Skoda Fabia, the Volkswagen Virtus could also borrow some styling cues from the 6th-gen VW Polo Facelift sold overseas. However, its features list is likely to be similar to the likes of the Taigun SUV. These include an all-LED lighting system, automatic projector headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, connected car technology, a digital driver’s display, touch-based auto climate control, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charger, a single-pane electric sunroof, and much more.
  • Safety kit may comprise 6 airbags, ESC, hill child assist, tire pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera, etc.
  • The mid-size sedan will be powered by the same 115PS 1.0-litre and 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines that also power the VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the upcoming Skoda Slavia.
  • Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual as standard, an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic for the 1.0-litre mill, and a 7-speed DSG for the 1.5-litre unit.
  • Expect Volkswagen to price the Virtus between Rs 10-17 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will go up against the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Slavia, and the upcoming Toyota Belta.
