Volkswagen Unveils Electric Polo Under ID Lineup

Volkswagen has taken a big step towards electrification by debuting the ID Polo, marking the iconic hatchback’s transition into the EV era. Based on the brand’s MEB+ platform, the pre-sales of the all-electric Polo will commence in a few days, and its prices will start at under 25,000 euros.

Volkswagen ID Polo: Design and Dimensions

The ID Polo is the brand’s first model to follow the new Pure Positive design language. It kept the essence of the iconic Polo hatchback, especially in its profile, but with a distinctly modern and futuristic twist, giving it a more aerodynamic and EV-focused appeal.

Upfront, the ID Polo features a clean, closed-off grille, paired with sleek LED headlamps with eyelid-esque daytime running lamps (DRLs) and a connected light bar featuring an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the centre. The bumper looks very minimalistic with a sleek air dam flanked by vertically oriented intakes, enhancing its visual appearance.

Towards the sides, it features flared fenders, prominent creases and sharp character lines, giving it a sporty feel. It can be had with up to 19-inch alloy wheels. The electrified hatch looks butchy from the rear. There’s a wraparound LED lightbar with an illuminated VW logo, as well as a prominent roof spoiler.

Speaking of the dimensions, the ID Polo measures 4053mm long, 1816mm wide and 1530mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2600mm. As for luggage capacity, it offers a cargo area of 441 litres, which can be expanded to 1,243 litres by folding the rear seats.

Volkswagen ID Polo: Interior and Key Features

The ID Polo boasts a minimalistic dashboard layout, with the infotainment and driver’s display sitting along the same line of sight. Below the 13-inch main screen are positioned the centre air con vents and an array of physical controls for climate functions and hazard warning lamp. It also gets a new two-spoke steering wheel with heating function.

Other key features of the hatch include leatherette upholstery, dual-zone AC, ambient lighting, wireless charging, vehicle-to-load functionality, rear view camera, adaptive cruise control, and much more.

There are also a lot of optional amenities on offer, such as a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a fixed panoramic glass roof, and 12-way powered front seats with massage & memory function.

Volkswagen ID Polo range

Volkswagen ID Polo: Battery, Specs and Range

Volkswagen is offering the ID Polo with two NMC battery pack options: 37kWh and 52kWh, both paired with front-mounted motors producing 270Nm of peak torque. In 37kWh guise, the ID Polo produces 116PS in lower variants and 135PS in higher trims. It claims 329km of range, with DC fast charging support of up to 90kW, which can top up its battery pack from 10% to 80% in nearly 23 minutes.

On the other hand, the ID Polo 52kWh version produces 211PS and promises a range of 454km. It can be charged from 10-80% in just 24 minutes using a 105kW DC charger.

Volkswagen is also reportedly working on the sporty GTI version of it, which is expected to produce 226HP of max power.
