Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Local Assembly Commences; Launch Soon

Volkswagen India has commenced local assembly of its upcoming 7-seater SUV, the Tayron R-Line, at its plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This will help the brand maintain competitive pricing. The model is expected to launch by March 2026. Once launched, it will be positioned at the top of VW’s product lineup, positioned above the Tiguan R-Line.

  • The Tayron R-Line is a 7-seater premium SUV.
  • A 2-litre turbo-petrol engine will power it.
  • It will be positioned against the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and the upcoming MG Majestor.

The Tayron R-Line is built on the MQB EVO platform, with a wheelbase of 2789mm. Globally, the Tayron is positioned as a three-row SUV, bridging the gap between the Tiguan and the larger Touareg. The R-Line version further enhances its appeal with sportier styling elements, including aggressive bumpers, R-Line badges, larger alloy wheels, and an all-black exterior treatment that gives it a strong road presence.

Inside, the Tayron R-Line is expected to offer a tech-loaded cabin, focusing on comfort, connectivity, and safety. Volkswagen is likely to equip it with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver display, premium upholstery, multi-zone climate control, and connected car technology.

On the safety front, the SUV is expected to come with multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and an advanced ADAS suite, aligning it with global safety standards and customer expectations in the premium SUV segment.

Underneath the hood, the Tayron R-Line comes with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine (204PS/320Nm), paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that powers all four wheels of the SUV.

Once launched, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will take on rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, and Jeep Meridian, offering a more road-focused, technology-driven alternative in the premium SUV space.
