Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Recall Over Seatbelt Issue

Volkswagen has announced a recall for over 21,000 units of the Taigun and Virtus in India due to a potential safety issue with the rear seatbelts, which may not function properly. As per the SIAM website, the affected units were manufactured between May 24, 2024 and April 1, 2025. This concern was identified during the ongoing quality inspection.

This isn’t the first recall for these models—38 units were pulled back in 2024 over missing welds on suspension arms, which posed a stability risk.

Reason for Recall

The recall has been announced due to a serious safety concern with the rear seatbelts. In the event of a front collision, the rear centre and right passenger seatbelt latch plates may break, compromising passenger safety. This may lead to serious injuries in case of accidents or even death in some conditions.

As with any recall, Volkswagen will soon contact owners of affected vehicles to schedule a date for inspection. We believe the affected part will be replaced free of cost. Until the issue is resolved, we recommend avoiding the use of the rear seats for safety reasons.
