We all know that Maruti Suzuki is working on a new cross hatch that will be based on the Baleno (codenamed YTB). It has been spied numerous times and is expected to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. Now, reports are suggesting that it will be offered with the Suzuki’s BoosterJet 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that was first introduced on the Baleno RS in 2017. However, the model is no longer on sale in India.
Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a 1.2-liter Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine that makes 90PS and 113Nm, whereas the BoosterJet engine was capable of generating 102PS and 150Nm in its BS4 avatar. We expect similar power output from its BS6-compliant version as well.
Apart from the turbo-petrol engine, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YTB aka the Baleno Cross could also get either the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol or the 1.5-liter mild-hybrid petrol engine. However, unlike the Grand Vitara which comes in both FWD/AWD guises, the Baleno Cross will be a FWD model only.

Design-wise, the new Baleno Cross will feature Suzuki’s new design language, with notable styling elements including a Grand Vitara-like front grille, split headlamp setup, coupe-like sloping roofline and machine-cut alloy wheels. In terms of dimensions, it will be smaller than the new Brezza.
Maruti Suzuki will position the YTB between the Baleno and Brezza in its portfolio. Once launched, it will go up against the likes of Tata Punch, Mahindra KUV100 NXT, and Citroen C3.
