Toyota Hilux – Design and Features

Exterior and Dimensions

Based on the same IVM ladder-frame chassis as the Toyota Innova Crysta and Fortuner, the Hilux will come in a sole double-cab body style. It measures 5,3255mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,815mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,085mm. It offers a ground clearance of 216mm.

Design-wise, the Toyota Hilux’s silhouette looks quite similar to the Fortuner SUV till C-pillar. It looks robust and powerful from the outside. Upfront, it houses a sharp chrome garnished radiator grille, flanked by the LED projector headlamps. Its sporty black inserts for the fog lamps and silver skid plate take up the sporty quotient. There is also prominent cladding along the bottom edge of the Hilux that further enhances its overall appearance.

Interior

The Hilux is pretty attractive from the inside as well. Though it shares lots of elements with Fortuner, its dashboard has a distinctive layout. Its all-black theme with rich leather upholstery and aperture give a plush feel to the cabin.

Toyota Hilux Interior

In terms of features, the Hilux comes loaded with a host of premium equipment like an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone auto climate control, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, a colored multi-info display, powered driver’s seat, drive modes (Eco and Power), keyless entry with push-button start, auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, 7 airbags, front & rear parking sensors, hill hold & descent control, and much more.

For those who aren’t aware, the Hilux was rated with a 5-star safety rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash test for Adult Occupants Protection (AOP).

Off-Road Traits

The Hilux is available in a 4×4 configuration, assisted by a low-range transfer case, and front & rear electronic differential locks. It also gets Active Traction Control (ATC), Auto Limited Slip Differential (A-LSD), and Tyre Angle Monitor System to make it more off-road competent.

Besides, it has an approach angle of 29 degrees, a departure angle of 26 degrees, and a water wading capacity of 700mm.

Toyota will offer the Hilux in five colors: Emotional Red, Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, White Pearl, and Super White.

Toyota Hilux – Powertrain

The Toyota Hilux pickup truck shares its mechanicals with the Fortuner. That said, it will be powered by the SUV’s 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that makes out a maximum power output of 204PS and a peak torque of 500Nm. The power will be transferred to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual (standard) and an optional torque converter automatic unit.

Expected Price and Rivals

We expect Toyota to price it between Rs 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will lock horns with the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
