Toyota Hilux Pickup Truck India Launch Delayed

Latest Update: Toyota has finally launched the Hilux pickup truck in India. Click here for details.

  • Toyota Hilux India launch delayed.
  • Bookings were halted in February 2022 due to high demand.
  • Will be offered in two variants.
  • Fortuner’s 204PS 2.8-litre diesel engine will power this lifestyle pickup truck.

We all have been eagerly waiting for the mighty Toyota Hilux lifestyle pickup truck to hit the Indian roads. However, now it seems like our wait is going to be a little longer as media reports suggest that its launch has been delayed for an unknown period.

For those who aren’t aware, Toyota has already revealed the India-bound Hilux and initiated its pre-launch bookings earlier this year. But in February, the carmaker temporarily suspended its bookings due to high demand and is yet to resume it.

Sharing its underpinning with the Fortuner and Innova Crysta, the Toyota Hilux will come in a sole double-cab body style. It will be locally assembled at Toyota’s facility in Karnataka.

Dimensionally, the Hilux measures 5,3255mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,815mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,085mm. It offers a ground clearance of 216mm. It will be available in two variants: STD (standard) and High.

Toyota Hilux India launch date

The Toyota Hilux will pack a host of premium features such as an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone auto climate control, cruise control, powered driver’s seat, drive modes (Eco and Power), push-button start, 7 airbags, front & rear parking sensors, hill hold & descent control, and much more. Under the hood, the India-spec model will soldier on with a 204PS/500Nm 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, diesel engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, propelling all four wheels. However, the absolute purity lies in the pickup’s off-road creds, including a low-range transfer case, front & rear electronic differential locks, Active Traction Control (ATC), Auto Limited Slip Differential (A-LSD), Tyre Angle Monitor System, an approach angle of 29 degrees, a departure angle of 26 degrees, and a water wading capacity of 700mm.

Expect the Hilux to sit below the Fortuner and retails from around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, making it a premium alternative to the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
