Tata Punch, Nexon, and Altroz iTurbo To Get DCT Automatic Transmission Soon

Tata Motors has recently launched the Altroz premium hatchback with a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission, paired with its 86PS 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. Now, Tata Motors’ Vice President, Mr. Mohan Savarkar, has confirmed that this gearbox can also be easily paired with their turbo petrol engine.

That means, Tata could introduce the same DCT automatic unit with Altroz’s turbo-petrol as well as Punch and Nexon’s petrol engines in the near future. As for now, the Tata Nexon and Tata Punch come with an optional AMT transmission option.

For those who aren’t aware, the Tata Nexon and Altroz iTurbo, both get the same 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. However, the Altroz iTurbo has been detuned to an output of 110PS and 140Nm, while the sub-4m SUV delivers 120PS and 170Nm.

Since Nexon consistently becoming a top seller for the carmaker, it could be the next offering to get the dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) option. Also, its all rivals, save for the XUV300, come with more sophisticated automatic transmission choices. For reference, the Venue and Sonet offer DCT, while the Vitara Brezza, Urban Cruiser, Magnite, and WR-V come with either a CVT or torque converter unit. On the other hand, the Renault Kiger offers both AMT and CVT transmission options.

Tata Punch DCT Automatic

Speaking of the Tata Punch, it is also powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Altroz that comes with an AMT transmission option, and we don’t expect Tata to replace it with DCT automatic. However, it is likely to get Altroz’s turbocharged petrol mill in the near future, which could come with the dual-clutch unit.

Well, these are just our speculations, and we are yet to get any concrete details.
