Tata Motors To Launch 10 New EVs By 2025

Following the success of Nexon EV, Tata Motors is now planning to launch 10 new electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025 in India. The news has been confirmed by Tata's Chairman and Non-executive Director Natarajan Chandrasekaran at the brand's 76th Annual Investors’ Report.

Chandrasekaran stated that –

In India, EV penetration in our portfolio has now doubled to 2 percent this year and we expect penetration to increase exponentially in the coming years. Tata Motors will lead this change in the Indian market.

Tata hasn't shared any details about these upcoming 10 EVs yet, but the list is likely to include electric versions of Altroz, HBX, Harrier, and Safari. In fact, the Altroz EV was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, and we believe the brand will launch the electrified hatchback by the next year. Besides, the Tata e-Vision and Sierra EV Concept could also see the light of day.

Apart from this, the Homegrown carmaker will also grow its charging network from 355 to 700 public chargers by mid-2022. Also, to minimize the high costs associated with electric vehicles, the brand is exploring tie-ups for battery production in India and Europe. In addition, the company is looking at in-house development of software for autonomous and connected car technology.

Currently, Tata has two electric cars in its product portfolio – Tigor EV (sedan) and Nexon EV (SUV). The brand will soon introduce the facelift version of the Tigor EV, which is likely to be known as X Pres-T EV. The Nexon EV, on the other hand, is one of the bestselling electric vehicles in the country with over 4,000 units sold since its market arrival in 2020. As of now, it accounts for 70 percent of the total electric cars sales in India thanks to its affordable pricing (Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.56 lakh) and long-range on a single charge (claims 312km from its 30.2kWh battery pack).
