Tata Harrier EV: Seven First-Ever Features in a Tata Vehicle

Tata Motors has recently launched the Harrier EV at a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom) as the brand’s flagship electric vehicle. It packs several noteworthy features, including some making their debut in a Tata vehicle. Here are seven of them: –

1. Dual-motor All-wheel Drive

For the very first time, Tata has introduced two electric motors, generating 158PS and 238PS for the front and rear axles, respectively. The combined torque output stands at 504 Nm, enabling the EV to complete the century sprint in just 6.3 seconds using Boost mode, making it the quickest Tata car ever. The AWD setup also equips the Harrier EV for serious off-roading capabilities.

2. Six Terrain Modes

Tata has offered the Harrier EV comes with six multi-terrain modes: Normal, Mud Ruts, Rock Crawl, Sand, Snow/Grass and a Custom mode – ensuring confident performance across varying terrains.

  • Normal: Optimised for everyday driving on paved roads with a balance between efficiency and performance.
  • Mud Ruts: For optimum grip and control on muddy/uneven, rutted surfaces.
  • Rock Crawl: To provide low-speed torque and precise control for navigating rocky terrain.
  • Sand: Adjusts power delivery to prevent wheel spin and maintain momentum on sandy surfaces.
  • Snow/Grass: Improves stability and reduces wheel slip on low-traction surfaces like snow or wet grass.
  • Custom: Allow drivers to personalise settings based on preferred driving dynamics and terrain needs.

3. Auto-park Assist

This new features will allow the users to par their Harrier EV by itself without any input to the throttle, steering wheel, and brakes. It uses sensors and cameras to detect suitable parking spaces and then automatically steers the car into the spot, thus making parking easier in tight and crowdy spaces.

4. Summon Mode

Controlled by the key fob, the Summon mode allows the car to move itself forward or bakward at a very low speed without anyone inside to help you get in or out the car where opening the doors might be difficult.

5. Digital IRVM with Dashcam (eIRVM)

Unlike regular IRVM, the Harrier EV has a screen on it which showcases the feed from a rear camera mounted on the shark-fin antenna. This digital IRVM also integrates a front dashcam in a very smart way, which records and capture the footage.

6. 540-degree Camera

The Harrier EV comes with a surround view system that not only provides a 360-degree view around the vehicle but also allows you to see what’s underneath the car in the Transparent Mode, making it especially useful during off-roading.

7. 14.5-inch Touchscreen Infotainment

While the diesel-powered Harrier comes with a 12.3-inch long touchscreen, its electric counterpart comes with a more larger 14.5-inch Neo QLED screen by Samsung. It offers EV-specific graphics, drive pay, a built-in navigation, along with the connected car tech and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
