Tata Gravitas To Unveil On 26th January 2021

Tata Motors is all set to unveil the three-row version of the Harrier SUV, designated as "Gravitas" on 26th January 2021. It was showcased in its pre-production avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo, held in February 2020, and was supposed to launch in the second quarter of 2020, but the plan was postponed due to the COIVD-19 pandemic. But now this upcoming flagship SUV is ready to hit the market. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector Plus SUVs, and the upcoming 7-seater Hyundai Creta

About Tata Gravitas

Like the 5-seater Harrier, the Gravitas is also based on Tata's newest OMEGA-Arc platform (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Architecture), which is derived from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)'s D8 platform. As its names suggest, the OMEGA architecture is a modular platform, which can be used for the development of different sizes of vehicles between the length of 4.3 metres & 4.8 metres.

Design-wise, the front-end of the Gravitas is expected to remain largely similar to the Harrier. However, the side & rear profile would be slightly different to distinguish between the two. It will feature stepped roof, a large quarter panel, different alloy wheel design, upright tailgate, large rear windscreen, & slightly tweaked bumpers to distinguish it from its 5-seater version. As per the leaks, it will also feature a thick chrome strip between the tail lamps and a new dark blue colour that’s not available with the Harrier.

In comparison to the Harrier, the Gravitas would be 63mm longer (4,661mm) and 80mm taller (1,786mm) to make room for passengers in the third row. However, the width (1,894mm) and the wheelbase of the car (2,741mm) will remain the same.

On the inside, it is likely to sport a lighter black-beige colour scheme, which is distinctive from the Harrier. However, the cabin & dashboard layout will remain the same.

In terms of seating configurations, the Gravitas is expected to come in both 6 and 7-seater arrangement. The six-seat Gravitas will incorporate two captain seats in the middle row, whereas the seven-seater model will feature a bench seat.

Powertrain

Tata Gravitas is assumed to be powered by the existing 2.0-litre diesel engine (170PS/350Nm) as the Harrier with 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter gearbox options. The brand could also offer it with a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the later stage.
