Tata Motors has been working on an automatic gearbox for the Altroz for some time. And now, the premium hatchback has been spied with a covered gearbox stick, implying the test mule is likely to be equipped with automatic transmission, probably a DCT (dual-clutch transmission) unit.

The gearbox is likely to be paired with the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which generates 110PS of maximum power and 140Nm of peak torque. We don't expect it to make to its 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (86PS/113Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel (90PS/200Nm) motors. Currently, all these engines come mated to only a 5-speed manual transmission.
Besides the introduction of the DCT gearbox, we do not presume any changes inside the cabin. It will continue to be available with the existing set of features that majorly includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, iRA connected car technology, ambient lighting, auto climate control, rear AC vents, semi-digital instrument cluster, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, reverse camera along with parking sensors, and more.
Tata is expected to launch the Altroz DCT on its second anniversary in January 2021, with prices likely to start from around Rs 8 lakh. Once launched, the Altroz will emerge as a more prominent competitor against the Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Glanza, Maruti Baleno, and Honda Jazz.
