Stellantis India, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited (TMPV) and its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEM) have announced the signing of a Definitive Agreement that expands the scope of their long-standing partnership further into advanced technology and product collaboration. It marks an important expansion of the companies’ long-standing strategic partnership.
Under the agreement, Tata will provide Stellantis access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture, which Stellantis will build upon through its product development and engineering capabilities in India to address the requirements of more than 50 global markets, adapting to diverse customer, regulatory and operating requirements.
Vehicles developed under the Agreement will be manufactured in India at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), the 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors and Stellantis.
Marketing Channels To Remain Separate
Despite the strategic partnership, both Tata Motors and Stellantis will continue to maintain separate marketing channels. This means both companies will retain their independent brand identities, sales channels and marketing strategies.
Exports In Focus
This Definitive Agreement follows the MoU signed in February 2026 to explore collaboration across manufacturing, engineering and supply chain in India and overseas. It turns that intent into a specific product technology and architecture collaboration. Utilising India’s competitive engineering strengths and manufacturing scale, the collaboration aims to accelerate export ambitions and further anchor India as a key node in the global production network.
Sierra-based Jeep SUV In Works
The first product under this partnership could be the Tata Sierra-based SUV from Jeep. It is likely to feature the same platform and engine options as the Tata Sierra. Its all-electric version could be on the cards.
What Does It Mean For Buyers?
For buyers, the expanded partnership could eventually bring more advanced technologies and new products. This also means that we will see more new and mass-market models from Jeep India, making the brand accessible to a wider audience. The last all-new model we saw from Jeep in India was the Meridian around four years ago. For Tata Motors buyers, the expanded partnership could eventually translate into access to more advanced technologies and improved product offerings.
