Skoda Rapid Replacement Will Be Called SLAVIA; Unveiling By The Year End

Skoda has officially revealed that its upcoming Rapid replacement sedan model will be called 'Slavia'. It is likely to be revealed by the end of this year, followed by its launch in early-2022.

The Slavia will be the second made-in-India Skoda model under the brand's ‘India 2.0’ strategy. Similar to the Kushaq SUV, it will also underpin the MQB-A0-IN platform and will be bigger than the current-gen Rapid. In fact, it will be a notchback with a lift-back tailgate.

Design-wise, the Skoda Slavia will share its design cues with the Octavia. Going by the previous spy images, it will feature Skoda's typical butterfly grille upfront, flanked by reflector-style triple barrel LED headlamps. The rear will get an Octavia-like squarish LED taillamp design.

The interior of the car is assumed to share a lot of resemblance with the Skoda Kushaq. Revealed by the latest spy shots, it will flaunt a dual-tone cabin with a large touchscreen infotainment system taking the central stage. Besides, it could also share its features list with the Kushaq that majorly includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, auto climate control, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, 6-speaker sound system with a subwoofer, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, single-pane electric sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless phone charger, six airbags, electronic stability control, and much more.

Skoda is likely to provide the Slavia with the same 1.0-litre TSI (115PS/178Nm) and 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol (150PS/250Nm) engines as the Kushaq. Both will be available with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options (6-speed torque converter for 1.0-litre unit and 7-speed DSG for the 1.5-litre motor). Once launched, it will go up against the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, and the upcoming Toyota Belta and VW Vento's successor model that is likely to be known as Volkswagen Virtus.
