The ministry states that the charges have been revamped for pushing the customers towards cleaner and greener mobility. Besides, the ministry has also revised the rates of renewal of fitness certificates. These new rates will be applicable from April 2022 onwards.

Recently, the Indian government has also rolled out the vehicle scrappage policy to phase out the old and polluting vehicles from the roads. Under this scheme, customers will also be entitled to get a waiver of RC charges for a new vehicle, purchased against the authority of the Certificate of Deposit (CoD) issued by a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility for a vehicle being scrapped. Besides, the government has also urged the manufactures to provide additional benefits to the customers. Click here for more details.

In the other updates, the ministry has recently introduced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automobile industry to boost advanced automotive technology products, which will help to lower fossil fuel emissions. Besides, at the inauguration of National Highway projects in Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) on 2nd October 2021, Shri Nitin Gadkari, the union transport minister has also stated that all the vehicles in the country should run on 100% ethanol as it is a better and cheaper green fuel than petrol. This will also decrease the country's dependency on imported conventional fuels.
