Renault Triber To Get Turbo-Petrol and Dual-Cylinder CNG Kit

Those who have tried their hands on the Renault Triber know that this is a fantastic package under the sub-4m length. Its spacious cabin and flexible seating can even put the car above its segment to shame. However, its only major drawback is the underpowered 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. That said, reports now suggest that a more powerful turbocharged petrol is on the cards, likely to launch around the festive season this year. What’s more interesting is that the turbocharged MPV will also be offered with a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG kit.

Will Be Based On A New Platform

Renault India will move the Triber, along with the Kwid and Kiger, to an updated version of its CMF-A platform called the RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform). This has enabled the brand to incorporate dual-cylinder CNG tanks within the chassis under the boot floor, thus preserving boot space for your luggage.

Renault Triber turbo and CNG

This updated platform will not only address the customer’s concern of more power but also the increasing demand for CNG in the entry-level segment. As of now, the Triber is being offered with a dealer-level CNG retrofit kit.

The 1-litre turbocharged engine was in demand since the Triber’s debut in 2019. However, the packaging challenges prevented the fitment of this engine. But with the upgraded architecture, those limitations have been addressed.

Same Turbo Engine As Kiger

The Triber Turbo will use the same HR10, 1-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also does duty on the Kiger and Duster, producing 100PS of peak power & 160Nm of peak torque. It is expected to be offered with both manual and CVT automatic transmission options.

Author’s Take

Despite its smaller footprint, the Renault Triber has always been a marvel in terms of cabin space, which can comfortably accommodate adult occupants across all three rows. And now with the upgraded platform, the Triber is expected to emerge as a more mature and well-rounded product, overcoming its key shortcomings. This improvement could further strengthen its appeal and help the brand to move closer to its target of achieving a 5% market share in the Indian market by 2030.
