Take-Aways:-

  • All four cars are available in both turbocharged and naturally aspirated petrol engines.
  • The Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks are only petrol-powered SUVs while the Koreans offerings also get a diesel engine option.
  • Duster and Kicks share the same engine options. While on the other hand, Creta and Seltos also share their powertrains with each other.
  • The turbo engine of Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks, having the smallest displacement here, but it is still the most powerful and the torquiest engine here.
  • Turbo variants of all four SUVs are available with the choice of a manual or automatic transmission except the Creta which is only available with an automatic gearbox.
  • The Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta get DCT (dual-clutch transmission) as automatic transmission unit, while the French and Japnese cars get CVT (Continuous variable transmission).
  • As far as the naturally aspirated engine is concerned, the Koreans offerings are marginally ahead in terms of power output while the torque output is almost equal.
  • BS6 Kicks and Duster only get the manual gearbox with NA engine, whereas the Creta and Seltos have the advantage of a CVT gearbox.

Verdict

The Renault Duster here is the most affordable SUV with segment's best performance figures with the turbo engine, at least on papers. It is important to note that from where the prices of Duster turbo and Kick's turbo ends, the prices of Korean car's start from. Even it also has a big price gap.

There is no denying in the fact that the Duster lacks on the features front in comparison to all three SUV. However, the ride quality of both Duster and Kicks is unmatchable. Hence, if the driveability is your main concern and you cannot push your budget further then you may go ahead with the Duster. And if you can slightly increase your budget, then Nissan Kicks will also be a good option for you with better features on offers.
