Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 And 718 Spyder Launched In India

Prolific German Sports carmaker, Porsche has added a couple of cars to its Indian line-up. The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Coupe and 718 Spyder, while the former has been launched at the price of Rs 1.63 Crores, the Spyder will retail at a price marginally lesser than the 718 Coupe, tagged at Rs 1.59 Crores.

The engine powering 718 series:-

Both of the 718 series offerings are powered by the same 4.0-liter, Naturally Aspirated, six-cylinder engine that puts out a power output of 420 PS and also a similar peak torque figure. This engine option comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The gigantic engine does all the justice, putting forward a brilliant real-life performance. Both these cars reach three-figure speeds in just 4.4 seconds. Another pointer that speaks volumes of superior engine performance is the top speed figures, both these cars can clock maximum speeds in excess of 300 kmph.

What are the interiors like?

Though the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder feature a cabin that is largely identical to the standard 718 models, there are a lot of design touches that give the cabin a racy vibe suggestive of great performance.

The GT4 Coupe features fabric door pulls in place of traditional ones, which definitely is a peculiar addition, it also gets body-colored seat belts. The infotainment system has been removed, but it can be reinstalled without having to pay anything extra.

As far as the Spyder is concerned, it will get conventional door handles and the infotainment system comes pre-installed, unlike the GT4 Coupe.

Underpinnings

Both the performance-oriented 718 series cars feature the same chassis underneath. Even the underpinnings are worked in such a manner that they assist the performance of these cars well. Consequently, they get race-inspired springs and struts at the front and rear axles. These cars also feature Porsche’s Active Suspension Management damping system which is 30 mm lower than standard variants.

Porsche claims that the underpinnings are rejigged ‘specifically for use on the racetracks’. As part of the redone underpinnings, these cars will feature a slightly tweaked Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system which means that it will now have an improved torque-vectoring system.

Both are offered with ceramic brakes, along with a standard track-focused caliper system. 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 Coupe both sit on the same Porsche-specific Michelin-made high-performance tires.

Porsche 718 series rivals

The high performance 718 series does not have any direct rivals as such. As mentioned at the very start, the performance-oriented Cayman GT4 and Spyder will standard 718 models that are already on sale in the country at the price of Rs 85.95 Lakhs (for Cayman) and Rs 89.95 Lakhs (for the Boxster). The standard 718 series locks horn against Jaguar F-Type and BMW Z-4 in India.
