Planning Delhi Trip? Check These Vehicle Entry Rules Before November 1

Planning to visit Delhi by driving your own vehicle? Well, your vehicle’s entry could be barred if it isn’t compliant with the BS6 emission norms. That said, the Delhi government has announced a ban on the entry of non-BS6 vehicles registered outside the national capital from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027, as part of its winter pollution control measures. However, the wider Winter Action Plan will remain in effect until February 28, 2027.

The government will also enforce a ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule across Delhi, under which vehicles without a valid PUC certificate will not be supplied petrol, diesel, CNG or LPG.

  • Under the new Winter Pollution Control measures, parking fees at authorised municipal parking facilities will also be doubled, excluding parking lots operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
  • To reduce peak-hour congestion and vehicular emissions, the government has also announced a 50% work-from-home policy across public and private offices.
  • As part of this initiative, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices will operate from 8.30 am to 5 pm, while the Delhi govt offices will run from 10 am to 6.30 pm.
  • The government has also urged the public to carpool and use public transport, including electric city buses and Metro services.

For those unaware, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage 1 of GRAP across the national capital region on 21st October after Delhi’s AQI rose to 244. Under these measures, the government has also taken some other critical measures to curb air pollution in the region, including a ban on the usage of coal and firewood as fuel in tandoors at hotels, restaurants and open eateries. The usage of diesel generators has also been restricted to emergency and essential services only.
