Nissan Junks India Exit Rumors, Gears Up for New Models

Nissan has recently launched the Magnite CNG in India, and during the event, the carmaker dismissed reports about its alleged exit from the Indian market. In fact, Nissan India MG Saurabh Vatsa reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to India, stating that “Nissan is fully committed to India, and all our product plans are on track.” He also confirmed that pre-production of their upcoming B-segment MPV and C-segment SUV has already begun at the company’s manufacturing facility in Chennai. The MPV, which will be based on the Renault Triber, is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of next year. Meanwhile, the SUV (Nissan’s version of the upcoming Duster) is expected to arrive by mid-2025.

Vatsa also revealed that Nissan has plans to introduce a couple of its global models in India via the CBU route, broadening its premium offerings for niche segments. Though details remain under wraps, these imports are expected to enhance Nissan’s brand image and attract enthusiast buyers.

As part of its strategic roadmap, Nissan has also started deploying its €700 million investment announced earlier for India operations. This investment will not only support new product development but also boost manufacturing capabilities. The company is targeting an annual production volume of 1,00,000 units — split equally between the domestic market and exports.

With the continued development of Magnite and multiple upcoming launches, Nissan aims to strengthen its foothold in India’s competitive passenger vehicle market, focusing on affordable innovation, local manufacturing, and future-ready powertrains.
