Next-Gen MG Hector To Launch By December 2022

We all know that MG Motor is working on a new-generation iteration of the Hector SUV. Now, in response to a message posted by a potential customer on social media, the Chinese-owned marque has confirmed that it will be launched by the end of December 2022.

For those who aren’t aware, MG has already teased the upcoming Hector multiple times, revealing its new front & interior design. For starters, the SUV gets a gigantic front grille with chrome studs and a redesigned front bumper, along with a thick chrome trim surrounding the air dam. Some significant changes are also expected to be made to the side and rear profiles of the SUV.

Inside, the 2022 MG Hector will receive a completely overhauled dashboard design, with the cabin sheathed in a dual-tone Oak White & Black theme. However, the biggest highlight is its reworked centre console with a massive 14-inch portrait-style touchscreen system that will support wireless smartphone integration via Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The other notable element includes redesigned AC vents, a digital driver’s display, a new centre console tunnel with updated switchgear and more.

The next-gen MG Hector will now also be offered with radar-based Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that should include active safety features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection, rear-cross traffic alert and more.

We don’t expect any changes underneath the bonnet. That said, the new MG Hector is likely to continue with the same 1.5-litre petrol and 2-litre diesel engine options as the current model. However, an automatic transmission option can be introduced for the oil burner, whereas the petrol mill already comes with an optional CVT unit.

As a result of all these changes, expect the 2022 MG Hector to be priced substantially higher than the current model, which ranges between Rs 14.43 lakh and Rs 20.36 lakh (ex-showroom). While it is not official, the brand is likely to sell it alongside the current Hector.
