Next-Gen Mahindra XUV500 Will Be Called XUV700

We all know that Mahindra is gearing up to launch the next-generation XUV500, which has been codenamed W601. It is likely to be launched in Q3 of 2021. And, as we are heading closer to its launch timeline, the brand has announced that the production-spec version of this SUV will be called XUV700. It is likely to be sold alongside the current generation XUV500

Name Reveal | Mahindra W601

The upcoming XUV700 will be a more premium offering than the XUV500. It will be based on the all-new W601 monocoque platform and is likely to be bigger than the existing model. Suggested by the spy shots, the XUV700 will get a host of segment-first features such as dual-screen setup with the largest infotainment system in the segment and radar-based level-1 autonomous tech like parallel park assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and many more. The other notable features are likely to include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, electric parking brakes with auto-hold function, wireless charger, powered driver’s seat with memory functions, front & rear parking sensors, multiple airbags, ESC, and a 360-degree camera, etc.

Under the hood, this Mahindra’s most advanced SUV will be powered by Thar's 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines but in a much higher state of tune. For reference, the turbo-petrol engine makes 150PS/320Nm in Thar, whereas the diesel engine delivers 130PS/300Nm. Both engines will be offered with the option of a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic transmission along with an all-wheel-drivetrain (AWD) system with several variants.

Considering all the enhancements related to its usability and premium quotient, the XUV700 is likely to demand a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the XUV500, which retails from Rs 15.13 lakh to Rs 19.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will battle it out with the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and the recently unveiled Hyundai Alcazar.
