Mumbai Vadodara Expressway To Open For Public By August 31

The Mumbai-Vadodara high-speed section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is expected to open for the public on August 31, 2026. Once the travel corridor is operational, the travel time between Mumbai and Vadodara will reduce from over 8 hours to just 4 hours. Here’s all you need to know about the Mumbai-Vadodara expressway section: –

  • The Mumbai-Vadodara high-speed section on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway is 157km long.
  • It is built at a cost of approximately Rs 24,000 crore.
  • Out of the seven construction packages in this section, five have been completed.
  • With its opening, the traffic congestion on the Thane, Bhiwandi and Ghodbunder routes will ease, leading to savings in time and fuel.
  • This new high-speed corridor will also ease the freight transportation to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Navi Mumbai.
  • Since it has robust connectivity between industrial areas in North and West India and Mumbai’s port system, the government also claims that it will boost exports, industry, investments and job creation

For those unaware, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway passes through the Union Territory of Delhi (12km), and the states of Haryana (129km), Rajasthan (373km), Madhya Pradesh (244km), Gujarat (426km), and Maharashtra (129km). Most stretches in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan were operational by 2023, with the construction having commenced in 2020. However, the Mumbai and Vadodara stretches faced delays due to a mix of urban complexity, geography and execution challenges.
