Maruti Suzuki Swift Now Available With CNG Powertrain

  • Maruti Swift CNG ranges between Rs 7.77 – 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Available on a subscription basis as well.
  • Claims a fuel efficiency of 30.9km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki has taken advantage of the rising fuel prices to launch a factory-fitted CNG kit on one of its most popular Swift hatchbacks. With this, it has become the 9th Maruti car to get the CNG powertrain option. The carmaker is offering the Swift CNG in two variants: VXi and ZXi, with prices ranging from Rs Rs 7.77 lakh to Rs 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

As the above table indicates, the Swift CNG is up to Rs 95,000 more expensive than their petrol-only counterparts. Interested customers can also purchase the greener fuel hatch on subscription basis, with plans starting from Rs 16,499 per month (all-inclusive). This price includes a car hiring rate, complete car maintenance, insurance, and 24X7 roadside assistance.

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG is the same 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder, Dual Jet petrol engine, paired to a factory-fitted CNG kit that makes 77.5PS and 98.5Nm and claims a fuel efficiency of 30.90km/kg. In petrol mode, it produces 90PS/113Nm and offers a claimed mileage of 23.20kmpl. Unlike the petrol-only model which gets both manual and AMT options, the Swift CNG comes only with a manual transmission.

With the introduction of a greener fuel powertrain, Maruti also claims that it has returned its suspension setup to go with the added weight of the CNG tank. Aside from that, the mid-size hatch remains unchanged.

In the Indian market, the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG goes against the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
