Maruti Suzuki Swift Receives A Safety Kit Upgrade

Maruti Suzuki has sweetened the safety quotient of its highly popular mid-size hatch, the Swift. It now gets the Electronics Stability Programme (ESP) as standard fitment that essentially enhances a vehicle’s stability by detecting and reducing loss of traction. Earlier, it was offered from the VXi AMT variant onwards. The Hill Hold Assist (HHA) function, however, will continue to be offered with AMT variants only.

Apart from the ESP, the Maruti Swift’s standard safety kit consists of dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, brakes assist, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, reverse parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder, high-speed alert system, and front seat belts with pre-tensioner and force limiter. The higher-spec variants of the Swift also feature an anti-theft alarm, reverse parking camera, day/night IRVM, and speed-sensitive automatic door lock.

On the creature’s comfort, no changes have been made to the hatch. It continues to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Suzuki Connect tech, auto climate control, cruise control, coloured MID, powered ORVMs, and passive keyless entry with push-button start/stop.

Underneath the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Swift still gets the same 90PS/113Nm 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine, that can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT unit. The hatch also gets an optional factory-fitted CNG kit, which delivers a reduced output of 77.49PS and 98.5Nm when fed with natural gas. However, it is unclear whether the 2023 Swift is compliant with upcoming RDE norms.

The MY2023 Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 8.84 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it fights out against the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which has recently received a facelift update.
