Maruti Suzuki Pulls The Plug On Alto 800

Maruti Suzuki has now reportedly stopped producing its price-conscious Alto after selling it for over two decades. It was a key rival to the Renault Kwid’s lower-spec version.

Though official wording has yet to be released, the Alto K10 may be the reason for its demise. There was little difference in price between the Alto 800 and the Alto K10, and the latter is undoubtedly a more mature product in every aspect.

With the Maruti Alto 800 now being phased out, the Alto K10 has become the entry-level offering for Maruti Suzuki in India.

Currently, the Alto K10 is priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Buyers shifting from Alto 800 to Alto K10 will have to push their budgets by up to Rs 82,000.

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 was a 0.8-litre petrol engine (48PS/69Nm) mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It was also offered with an optional factory-fitted CNG kit, claiming a fuel efficiency of 22.05kmpl with petrol and 31.59km/kg with natural gas.

Features on the Alto 800 included a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, remote keyless entry, front power windows, dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
