  • The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny is set to be launched in India on June 6 and might become the new official vehicle for the Indian Army.
  • Jimny’s predecessor, Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, was the Indian Army’s official vehicle for a long time. It was a simple yet rugged machine. And now the Jimny could join the Indian Army fleet.

  • Shashank Srivastava, executive director of Maruti Suzuki India, mentioned that the Indian Army has expressed interest in the product and they are currently studying their requirements, with sales expected to begin soon.

  • To jog your memory, the Maruti Jimny is a petrol-powered purpose-built off-roader that will be offered in two feature-loaded variants.
  • It is 3985mm long and 1720mm tall and has an approach Angle of 36°, a departure angle of 50° and a break-over angle of 24°. Additionally, it features a transfer case that enables independent speeds for the front and rear driveshafts.
  • Powered by a 1.5L petrol engine, with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, the Jimny is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of up to 16.94kmpl.
  • We expect its prices to start from around Rs 11 lakh and might go up to Rs 14.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
